The 2018 SSCC Blitz Championship will consist of the following 3 blitz tournaments, held at different times of the year:
Easter Blitz Tournament: 27th March
Winter Blitz Tournament: 10th July
Spring Blitz Tournament: 9th October
Players will be awarded points for each tournament they participate in, according to a Grand Prix System (1st in category: 10 points, 2nd: 8 points, 3rd: 6 points, 4th: 4 points, 5th: 3 points, 6th and below: 2 points). Once the 3 tournaments are completed, the points will be tallied and the respective SSCC Blitz Championship titles awarded to the leading players in each category.
Just as in 2016 and 2017, cash prizes will be awarded for performances in this year's individual tournaments, as is the case for most other events held at the club. No Grand Prix cash prizes will be awarded. Thus, players may not need to participate in all 3 tournaments to win a prize.
The entry fee for each tournament will be $10. We will be trialling Fischer time controls for blitz events in 2018, as are used in ACF and FIDE blitz events. Some events will be run with a time control of 3 minutes initially with 2 seconds increment per move, and if successful, this time control will continue to be used. Otherwise, some tournaments may be run with the guillotine time control of 5 minutes per player that was used in 2017.

The 2018 SSCC Easter Blitz was held on 27 March. The tournament was one of SSCC's most well attended blitz events with 23 entries and a very strong overall field. The games were played in a great spirit with only a few hiccups as we adjusted to the 3 + 2 time control and the new ruling of adding time for illegal moves. Thank you to all participants.
Congratulations go to the following players:
1st: Ihsan Ferozkohi (8.0/9) 2nd: Edward Calado (7.5/9) 1st Under 1900: Neo Jun Wei (5.5/9) 1st Under 1500: Pranav Senthil Kumar (5.0/9)
